Οἱ Ἅγιοι Ἱερομάρτυρες Βικέντιος καὶ Βαλέριος τῆς Σαραγόσας

🔹 Βίος καὶ μαρτύριο

Στην πόλη Σαραγόσα (Zaragoza) της σημερινής Ισπανίας, τον 4ο αιώνα μ.Χ., δύο εξέχουσες μορφές της πίστης διέπρεψαν για την αφοσίωσή τους στον Χριστό: ὁ Ἐπίσκοπος Βαλέριος καὶ ὁ διάκονός του Βικέντιος.

Κατά τη διάρκεια των σφοδρών διωγμών του αυτοκράτορα Διοκλητιανού, συνελήφθησαν και οδηγήθηκαν ενώπιον του διοικητή Δακιανού, όπου τους ζητήθηκε να αποκηρύξουν την πίστη τους στον Χριστό. Παρ' όλα τα βασανιστήρια, δεν υπέκυψαν.

🔸 Ο Βαλέριος, λόγω ηλικίας και αδυναμίας ομιλίας (ήταν τραυλός), εξορίστηκε.
🔸 Ο Βικέντιος υποβλήθηκε σε σκληρά βασανιστήρια: τον έδεσαν σε τροχό, του έσχισαν τις σάρκες με σιδερένια άγκιστρα και τον έκαιγαν σε πυρακτωμένο σιδερένιο κρεβάτι. Ομολόγησε μέχρι τέλους την πίστη του και μαρτύρησε με ηρωισμό και ειρήνη.
